The incident took place in Litchfield County around 2:20 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 22 in New Milford on Danbury Road (Route 7) in front of Italia Mia restaurant.
An investigation found that a 2006 Infiniti G35 was traveling north on Route 7 in the right lane and a 2022 Hyundai Tucson was attempting to turn left into Italia Mia from the left southbound lane, said Lt. Lee Grabner of the New Milford Police.
The Tucson and the G35 collided and the G35 then collided with a 2013 Nissan Rogue that was traveling south on Route 7, Grabner said.
The Infiniti was being driven by Skylar Fitch, age 17 of Kent, who was transported to Danbury Hospital and remains in critical condition, police said.
The passenger in the Infiniti, Julio Gomez, age 17, of New Milford, was transported to Danbury Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The operator of the Rogue, Mendes Iraildes Rodrigues, age 48, of New Milford, was transported to Danbury Hospital and is in stable condition, Grabner said.
The passenger in the Rogue was identified as Edvania DosSantos, age 29, of New Milford, who was transported to Danbury Hospital and was in critical condition.
Edvania DosSantos was transferred to another hospital and at this time the New Milford Police Department does not have an updated condition or location.
The operator of the Tucson, Scott Pitcher, age 62, of New Milford, declined medical attention at the scene.
The New Milford Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Team will continue the investigation and asks that anyone who witnessed this crash or has information contact Detective Nicholas Smith at 860-355-3133 or nsmith@newmilfordpolice.org.
New Milford High School will be offering counseling to any student, faculty, or others in need at the school.
The Fortitude Center will also be providing grief counseling to New Milford employees and first responders and those who request it.
